What Causes Blackheads?

Blackheads or “open comedones” are a nightmare for all girls. Blackheads are small black openings on the skin, filled with skin dirt. There’s no doubt that blackheads are hard to get rid of, but not impossible. There are plenty of ways to abolish them.

Genesis of Blackheads

Mostly people with oily skin get more blackheads. Blackheads are caused due to the clogged pores, which occur by sebum (oil) bacteria. I regret to say that blackhead is the first stage of acne, if they are allowed to stay for a prolonged period.

Types of Bacteria

  • Visible to the skin
  • Beneath the skin

Numerous Reasons that may cause Blackheads to fall out are:

  • Hormones
  • Improper cleanliness
  • Imbalanced diet
  • Oily skin
  • Clogged pores
  • Humidity
  • Low quality cosmetics
  • Stress
  • Medical problems
  • Greasy hair

Hormonal changes

BlackheadsHormonal changes are a one big reason. During puberty many hormonal changes take place, both in males and females. That results in increased production of sebum that gives birth to the blackheads and acne.

Cleaned Skin

If the skin is not cleaned properly, it causes dead skin cells to cover the pores of the skin. Then the pores become clogged and accelerate more sebum to be produced, that leads to the formation of acne.

Low Quality Cosmetics

If you are using low quality cosmetics or if you are using cosmetics more often and not removing it properly, this can clog the pores of the skin. Hence, lead to blackhead or acne break out.

Unbalanced Diet

Unhealthy or unbalanced diet is another reason. Eating too much fast food and fried food can lead to blackhead problems.

Stress

Stress is also a factor that causes blackheads. And there are some medical problems that yield blackheads. Some of them are like chronic constipation, anemia and thyroid problems.

Don’t Touch Blackhead or Acne

Avoid touching your skin if you have blackhead or acne problem. And also avoid greasy hair touching your skin cause it can help spread the infection.

How to Prevent Blackheads from Falling Out

There are various ways that can help you minimize the fall out of blackheads.

Some of them are as following:

  • Make a habit of washing your face twice or thrice a day. And if you have an oily skin you need to wash it more often.
  • Use a mild soap a face wash that suits your skin. And whenever you wash your skin, don’t ever rub your skin vigorously against the towel, just pat dry it.
  • Try using face wash or products that include benzoyl peroxide, it helps killing and cleaning the dirt and bacteria on the skin.
  • Tea tree oil is best remedy to prevent blackheads and acne.
  • You should monitor your food. Well balanced diet helps a lot in preventing acne. Avoid eating oily food, excessive fat and starch. Eat as much fresh fruits and green vegetables as possible.
  • Drinking a lot of water like (10-12) glasses a day can help you to cleanse your body .

Removing the Blackheads

It is quite a very challenging task to remove blackheads. You need to be very careful that you don’t damage your skin while removing the black heads.

There are some ways to remove the blackheads safely:

  • Use a gentle blackhead scrub to remove dead skin and clear the pores of the skin. But be gentle, don’t rub vigorously. And do not use scrubs on daily basis, because it will scratch your skin and take away all your skins moisture.
  • You can use a blackhead remover or you can just take a cloth and pinch the blackhead with your hands or otherwise you can you nose strips available in the market
  • You can use a moisturizer and take a steam for a few minutes and then try to remove the blackheads. The steam will soften the skin and it will be easier for you to remove the blackheads. But never steam so often or your pores will get larger.
  • Exfoliate your skin twice a week. It will help you to keep your skin properly cleaned.

Now, as I said before, removing blackheads is not an easy task. You can’t get rid of them overnight. You need to be very patient. You can maintain the blackheads if you include some good habits as a part of your life.
